Kate Elkins comes to Midtown Lutheran Preschool with over 16 years of teaching and childcare experience.  Kate grew up in northwestern Connecticut and headed south to attend Furman University in Greenville, SC where she earned a Bachelors in Elementary Education and a Masters in Early Childhood Education.  She has a wide variety of experience in education - preschool and elementary; charter and traditional public; single and mixed gender; and most recently mother to Jude.  She is a state-authorized trainer for early childhood care providers and a former member of the board of directors at Wesley International Academy charter school .

In 2013 Kate was hired to start up the preschool at Redeemer which has been Kate's church home for over 13 years.  She has been active with many groups including the youth and outreach boards and currently with the brass ensemble.  She met and married her husband, Jeff, here and they now raise their son in this community.  Kate's other interests include the outdoors, cooking, reading, yoga, travel, and the arts. The Elkins Family lives in the southeast Atlanta neighborhood of Grant Park.

Kate’s early childhood philosophy fully embraces the notion that it takes a village to raise a child and the importance of having nurturing, guiding people in the lives of children and families. Through her experience as a parent,  she has seen others love her son and give him pieces and gifts of themselves that she may not embody.  Families and preschools working together creates a balance in life for the child, family, and the community.  Kate is excited to become a part of your village in partnering with you to nurture and educate your child. Do not train a child to learn by force or harshness; but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each.
